Welcome

Does it concern you when you see young teens smoking or, if you are in the medical profession, when you treat patients with tobacco-related health problems? Have you, someone in your family, a friend, or a patient suffered from tobacco addiction? Do you suffer from exposure to tobacco smoke at work or when you go out to eat? Do you ever think about how you can help reduce the burden caused by tobacco both in this country and globally?

If you have answered "yes" to any of the above questions then this course is for you.

The course provides an introduction to tobacco control efforts in the United States and in other countries around the world. It reviews the history of tobacco production and marketing, as well as the health consequences of tobacco use. It also addresses how public policy can be used to reduce the burden of tobacco on individuals, communities, and countries.

The course has been developed to reach a broad and diverse international audience. Students of public health, public health professionals, and public health policymakers will find the course informative and insightful to their careers.
