Welcome to Quantitative Methods, a core course
at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
Quantitative Methods provides an introduction
to the basic concepts of biostatistics and epidemiology as applied to
public health problems. Emphasis is placed on descriptive statistics,
probability concepts, population sampling, and methodology used in the
conduct of epidemiologic studies. The framework for inferential statistics
based on probability and sampling is introduced. Various epidemiologic
study designs used to investigate associations between risk factors and
disease outcomes are presented, culminating with criteria for causal inferences.
