Welcome

Welcome to Principles of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene. This course is intended to provide an introduction to the field of industrial hygiene and to occupational health in general. The practice of industrial hygiene is directed to the anticipation/recognition, assessment, and control of factors in the workplace which may cause illness or injury. This course introduces concepts, terminology, and methodology in the practice of industrial hygiene, and identifies resource materials. The course includes lectures and problem solving exercises. Principles of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene is an introductory course for students wishing to pursue a master's degree in industrial hygiene, for students wishing to complete a certificate in occupational health, or for students in allied health fields needing a basic understanding of industrial hygiene.

Although the emphasis of this course is on concepts, some of the concepts are quantitative. A basic understanding of college level algebra is needed to understand some of the quantitative concepts.
