Welcome to Observational Epidemiology. In this course, our goal is to expand upon the material presented in Principles of Epidemiology (340.601) and provide you with more opportunities to learn about epidemiological concepts as applied to cohort and case-control studies.
During the course, we will focus on your ability to interpret and critically evaluate observational study designs and methods of data analysis. We will present advanced considerations for these designs, including assessments of exposures and outcomes. Furthermore, in the context of these study designs, we will also illustrate other intermediate epidemiology concepts including:
Measures of association
Bias
Confounding
Interaction/effect modification
This course is an alternative to Epidemiologic Methods 2 (340.752) and is intended for students outside the Department of Epidemiology who do not plan to enroll in more advanced epidemiology methods courses (340.753 and 340.754).
