Welcome

Welcome to Noise and Other Physical Agents in the Environment.

Welcome to Noise and Other Physical Agents in the Environment. This course is intended to provide an overview of physical agents in the workplace and general environment with more detailed emphasis on noise exposure and hearing loss. This course introduces concepts, terminology, and assessment methodologies associated with commonly encountered physical agents like, noise, heat, and ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. In contrast to chemical agents, physical agents are quantified and characterized using units from the physical sciences like, power, pressure, and intensity - as opposed to chemical agents - which are more commonly addressed in chemical and toxicological terms.

The course includes lectures, videos, and problem solving exercises. This course is intended for students pursuing graduate training in industrial hygiene and for students in allied health fields, or for occupational safety and health professionals who are seeking to expand their knowledge about some of the topics covered in this course. Many of the concepts in this course are quantitative, thus a basic understanding of college level algebra and physics is needed to understand the course material.
