Welcome to Health Management Information Systems.
There are a number of issues and forces driving changes in healthcare Information Technology (IT). These forces are shaping how hospitals, clinics, public health organizations, clinical research, and medical education organizations utilize IT and online clinical knowledge. The potential of what computers should and must do in providing healthcare, managing public health, performing clinical research, and exchanging data in the healthcare industry is higher than at any other time in history.
The primary catalysts for change include patient safety, the high cost of healthcare, the potential of bio-terrorism, improvements in informatics, improvements in computer technologies, threats of world-wide epidemics, and new regulations. The effective management of IT is a primary focus and challenge for any organization in the healthcare industry.
This course provides an overview of healthcare information systems with emphasis on current issues and industry pressures pushing modernization and increased sophistication in healthcare computing.
